State Rep. Joe Hogan (142nd District)

Putting affordability at the forefront

Posted

Growing up in a middle-class family, the priorities I have as your state representative are like those my parents had for my siblings and me; Providing great educational opportunities, safer communities, and helping everyone have an opportunity to succeed.

However, despite the successes of Wall Street, I know Main Street and many families who look like mine are struggling to make ends meet. That is why I have been working with colleagues from across Pennsylvania on both sides of the aisle to make things more affordable.

Knowing that prescription costs are a large part of a senior’s budget, I cosponsored and supported HB 1993, which was signed into law by Gov. Shapiro. This legislation limits practices that the pharmaceutical middlemen (PBMs) were using that increased prices you paid at your pharmacy.

Additionally, to help those on a fixed budget, I introduced legislation that would have allowed utility costs to be calculated against someone’s property tax and rent rebate application. This would allow more people to qualify for this rebate which is funded by casino revenue. In the coming weeks, I will also introduce legislation that provides a $250 rebate on energy costs.

One of the major issues I hear from our community is how the cost of necessary goods is far too high. That’s why I have introduced and supported legislation that would remove the state sales tax from these necessities or provide a tax holiday so families can make purchases tax free.

These are just some of the steps I’m taking to make Pennsylvania more affordable for you. If you have questions about these proposals or other legislation I’m working on, please reach out to my office at 215-752-6750.
